Focus gives their new Paralane a fresh lease on life. Evolving the popular all-road bike with more aero and integrated road inspiration, while not losing its mixed-surface roots. It’s comfortable like an endurance road bike. Its fast and sleekly integrated like an aero road bike. And it has big enough tire clearance to fall into the fast gravel category. We’re calling it a modern aero all-road bike. A bike to ride fast and far, with almost no limits what type of roads you choose to explore…

What started as an endurance road racing bike built to handle gravel all-the-way back in 2016, has some back around to the road thanks to plenty of other great gravel options in the lineup. Pick the Atlas in carbon or alloy if you want to go gravel adventuring. Focus haven’t actually scaled back the gravel capabilities of the Paralane. It’s just that in the last 7.5 years, what we used to call gravel clearance has almost become de rigeur for all-road bikes. I mean, plenty of modern road race bikes now have room for 32mm tires.

So I kinda feel like the old school road bike is dead in many riders’ eyes. We want to ride year round in any weather and comfortably on any road surface. And the path forward is a modern aero all-road bike like this new Focus Paralane.

What’s new?

The most obvious new bits are the fully integrated internal cable routing (nicely hidden under the stem).

And truncated NACA airfoil tube shapes for improved aerodynamic performance. But there’s still a classic 27.2 round seatpost, because often times comfort trumps incremental aero gains.

Focus feels like the all-road sweet spot is 32mm tires, but there’s room for at least 35mm tires, too.

If you aren’t the type to want to sit inside on the trainer, Focus has your back. The new Paralane also has its own set of sleekly integrated full-coverage fenders, with mounts that disappear when not in use. Focus says they look great, won’t rattle, and still have space for 33mm tires inside.

I think a big part missing from some of these press releases is US availability. I’d guess that most readers of Bikerumor are in the US, and I’m fairly certain that Focus doesn’t sell here anymore. Similar predicament as Merida. A mention that the bikes are not available here would be cool. Thanks for the work you do!

Scientists have theorized that people from a lot of other countries visit websites, not just Americans. Weirdly, most of those non-Americans don’t ask to be catered to as if their interests are the only ones being served.

Maybe with every product announcement or article, BikeRumor should list all the countries in which the given product can be purchased. That would relieve readers from having to expend all the energy it requires to visit a website to see where they sell their products. It would mean that readers wouldn’t have to do anything nutty like send an email to a company asking, “Do you sell your stuff in my country?”

Looks good. Also looks like most other bikes these days which isn’t a criticism of Focus. Carbon road bikes are mostly looking comically similar though.

Not bad Focus, 8/10.
Threaded bottom bracket
Round seatpost
Fender mounts
Decent tire clearance
Sensible reach and stack

-1 for integrated cables
-1 for not having in-frame storage.
I think the Argon 18 Krypton is the bar to judge endurance bikes by now, just needs better paint jobs though the blue is not bad.

I haven’t had a bike with in frame storage. Yet. From the newbie perspective I wonder about rattling. Have you had any issues with bits making noise when packed into in frame storage? Any tips or tricks for keeping it quiet?

Usually they come with a neoprene sleeve to pack everything in and avoid rattled

In frame storage is just making a frame heavier than it needs to be or less stiff. Very difficult or impossible to have partly cut-away tubes that maintain structural efficiency of a closed tube. It’d be a deal-breaker for me, I’d rather have a decent tool roll under the saddle.
Agreed on all the other points though, a lot to like on this bike.
