DT Swiss already had complete heavy-duty Hybrid wheels built to handle the extra abuse of modern ebikes & eMTBs for six years. Even upgrading Hybrid wheels to EXP already in 2021. Now they add separate and improved 240 Hybrid & 350 Hybrid hubs, so you can build your own custom ebike-ready wheels. Reinforced flange for stronger spokes. Stronger axles. And in addition, tougher ratchets build more burly wheels with trusted DT tech to handle the higher stresses of motor-assisted power transfer…

Based on the standard 240 & 350 hubs, the new heavy-duty DT Swiss 240 Hybrid & 350 Hybrid hubs bring improved strength and reliability for modern ebike wheel builds. Now you can build up your own wheels with high spoke tension and increased strength to resist both the extra electric motor-assisted acceleration AND the increased braking forces that come with heavier ebikes.

The updates are simple.

What’s new? Tech details

DT Swiss Hybrid eMTB hubs, heavy-duty reinforced 240 & 350 Hybrid ebike hubs get wider flanges

The new DT Swiss Hybrid hubs feature larger diameter and substantially thicker hub flanges for thicker 2.34mm ebike spokes. And they feature stronger hardened steel ratchets to reliably transfer the combined power from your pedals and ebike motor to the rear wheel. They also use new 18% stiffer reinforced axles that are thicker at the bearing seats to better handle high loads. And that’s compared to previous generation of already strong Hybrid hubs!

The Hybrid hubs come in two spec levels:

DT Swiss 240 Hybrid hubs feature oversized reinforced Ratchet EXP OS internals. And they spin on bigger bearings with more & larger balls to help transfer those higher eMTB loads.

DT Swiss 350 Hybrid eMTB hubs, new heavy-duty reinforced Ratchet EXP OS oversized ebike hub internals

That also allows 240 Hybrid Ratchet EXP OS hubs to upgrade to 30-teeth for slightly faster engagement too, without compromising strength or durability.

Not as much changes on the 350 Hybrid hubs. But they now feature tougher versions of the classic star Ratchet internals, made from hardened steel with 24T ratchet rings.

All new Hybrids hubs feature hardened steel freehub bodies and traditional high flanges for builds with traditional J-bend spokes.

Both sets of Hybrid hubs are available in Boost spacing with modular thru-axle end caps. Pick from 6-bolt IS or Centerlock brake rotor compatibility, and with Shimano HG or MicroSpline freehub bodies. But curiously, no XD drivers at the moment to fit new SRAM Powertrains. 240 Hybrids are 32-hole drilling only, while 350 Hybrids are 32 or 36-hole.

DT Swiss Hybrid hubs – Pricing, Options & Availability

The new ebike-specific DT Swiss hubs are available at two levels in matching front & rear hubs. That is, 240 Hybrid & 350 Hybrid. DT 240 Hybrid hubs retail for $243 / 178€ for front hubs (156g) and $460 / 336€ for rear hubs (290g, claimed). 350 Hybrid hubs sell for $117 / 93€ for front hubs (174g) and $298 / 230€ for rear hubs (302g, claimed).

Both also feature ebike-specific blue Hybrid logos to distinguish them from traditional red DT graphics, as the freewheel bodies are not cross compatible. Get them now then, from your local wheel builder or DT Swiss retailer. And build up a set of custom bullet-proof eMTB wheels for your ebike.

Are the endcaps interchangeable with the standard hubs? Or do we now have to navigate the maze of regular endcaps plus a new maze of eHub endcaps?

I don’t see the point of these hubs. DT is light weight stuff why have heavy 240? Seems ridiculous to me

I think you’re missing the point entirely then. These hubs are heavier because they’re more robust, to handle the increased loads and impacts that eBikes create.

I know they’re ehubs to handle the stress. Maybe l am missing the point.

what’s ridiculous is the points of engagemet. Way way behind other ebike specific hubs, DT has lost the plot

Engagement past a certain point has imaginary benefits and increased drag and noise. Ill die on this bridge. Much passed 50-60 points of engagements and the returns are pretty negligible. I’m even talking about mountain biking. Hell, I’d go as far as to say that too much engagement is a bad thing because you lose the ability to ratchet up your pedal speed slightly before slamming in to gear.

For instance, you’re ascending a technical root section, you need to quickly put out a micro-burst of power, but your foot is at the least powerful part of the stroke, with instant engagement you suffer because there is no free stroke to gain some momentum before slamming into gear. Having a tiny amount of float has benefits and the engagement wars are mostly marketing.

A 150×15 and 197×12 option for fat e bikes would be useful but sadly no, too niche?
