Ride1Up’s e-bike catalog is almost entirely driven by hub motors and under $2,000, sometimes way under. The Prodigy is their sole mid-motor option, and the new Prodigy V2 gets some serious upgrades with a Gates Carbon Belt Drive and Brose mid-motor for just $2,695.

But it doesn’t stop there…the Enviolo rear hub has a CVT for seamless, stepless “gear changes”. Combined, it and the belt drive should make for a low-maintenance drivetrain full of name-brand parts from solid manufacturers.

The Brose TF Sprinter motor puts out 90Nm of torque and assists up to 28mph (Class 3). Estimated range is 30-50 miles from the 36V14ah battery. They don’t list the watt-hour rating, but it’s 504Wh (because 36V x 14ah = 504wh).

Unlike most of their other bikes, this one doesn’t have a throttle, it only assists your own pedaling efforts. There are four assist modes and a full-color display to show them off, along with your speed and distance.

As for UL certification, their rep says that while the entire bike as a whole hasn’t been inspected by a UL lab, “the batteries and the charger along with the electrical systems are all UL-certified and compliant.”
