It appears that 2023 is the year of the bike BOGO. That’s buy-one-get-one-free, a term that’s normally not associated with the purchase of a complete bicycle. Then again, this hasn’t been a normal year for sales. As a result of many bike industry brands carrying far too much inventory into the new year, we’re seeing Black Friday deals that started well before Black Friday transition into fire sales as bike brands try to move aging products.

Buy One Get One Free Mountain Bikes?

This isn’t the first BOGO bike deal we’ve seen this year, but in terms of bicycle value, the appropriately named Kona N+1 sale is the craziest yet. Although, maybe this should be named the N+2 sale where N is the number of bikes you currently have since buying a new Kona Process means you’re getting two.

From now until December 31st, 2023, Kona is offering a buy-one-get-one-free deal on any in-stock Kona Process full-suspension mountain bike. These are killer bikes that have always impressed us with their well-rounded capabilities, style, and legendary North Shore durability.

What Kona Bikes Are On Sale?

The Kona Bike sale is limited to in-stock Process full-suspension models, but there is still a lot to choose from. At the most basic level, you’ll need to choose between the aluminum process models and the higher-end carbon versions. But from there, you have the choice of travel and wheel size – there’s even the Process X DH and a kid’s Process 24 to consider!

That could make this a perfect chance to get yourself a new mountain bike while getting a legit full-suspension mountain bike for your child, for free. Or, team up with one of your riding buddies and split the cost. Or just get two new bikes for yourself!

Demand was high and supply was low. I don’t think you understand how the world works.

I completely understand. Do you think that during the pandemic the bike brands were inflating their prices? I can 100% assure you they did not. It is 100% accurate that the shipping costs did go as high as Doug kindly explains. Did they tack on fees of $50.00 or so to the retailer because of this. Yes. Did they all of a sudden raise their, MSRP’S? No. Did some shops add a shipping and build charge to bikes? YES. But I hardly consider that gouging.

MSRPs increased a lot during 21-22. I was responsible for printing for all the stickers and raising the prices for an inventory of about 300 bikes. Trek did it 3 times in six months. Shops and companies stayed in panic mode for too long and kept buying. They all bought too much, so there is a correction now. However, we all forgot so fast that getting bikes for 30-50% at the end of season has been common forever. This is actually normal.

Shipping a container of bikes during 2021 and 2022 went from $2,000 to over $30,000. And that was for one of the top three brands in the U.S.. Believe me, there wasn’t any gouging going on.

I jumped on this and have set one Process X carbon setup as a 29/27er DH bike. I replaced the stock fork with a Fox Factory 38 180mm travel fork, I kept the other bike as a stock Process X except for replacing the wheels with a carbon wheel setup. I have been impressed with the Deore brakes and am worried about how well the WTB KOM I30/ DT SWIS 370 hub wheelset will hold up. So far so good for now though.
